Vlinder enables early-stage investment in climate projects via blockchain-based tokens sold at the Vlinder exchange and implements mangrove restoration projects which help reduce global carbon emissions.
APPROACH
To ensure the project’s long-term sustainability, Vlinder uses a community-based approach. They partner with eco heroes who have decades of experience working with local communities to enable them to be environmental stewards. Every project Vlinder consider puts local people and their prosperity in the centre of ecosystem restoration, as this ensures good governance and long-term sustainability of the project.
These projects create jobs and income-generating activities for the local population. They also help to improve gender equality and power dynamics by providing opportunities to women (at least 50% of local employees are women) and supporting schools and education for local children.

IMPACT
Vlinder enables carbon mitigation of 10 million tonnes of CO2 every month, the combined footprint of Switzerland and Austria. They achieve this by restoring 2 million ha of coastal forests, 1/2 the size of Switzerland or 125x Liechtenstein.
